​Case #1

The African Queen 

We will explore ancient African Queens, their strengths and how they impacted world history. In this investigation, we will discover the role these women played and compare their kingdoms and governments with modern day governments and societies. 

CASE #2
THE CASE OF THE MISSING MONARCH ​
​

This investigation discovers Ancient rulers across Africa who ruled small provinces to great networks, filled with people from a variety of backgrounds. We will find out how they created vast cities and laid the foundation for societies well past their reigns. 

Case #3
​The Griot and the Trickster 

The African kingdoms of Ghana, Mali, Songhai, Egypt and others, flourished with arts, architecture, culture, mathematics, technology and history. In those kingdoms, everyone had a role to keep the stories of their people. We will explore the role of the storyteller and the stories they told. 

CASE #4
​THE HIDDEN KINGDOM 
 

Egypt's history, culture and mythology are well known, but have you heard of the Nubian Kingdom, or Aksum? In this investigation, we will discover ancient kingdoms and their impact on the world! 

Case #5
​The Blank Page: Poetry & The Harlem Renaissance

In this class, detectives will investigate the things that motivated people to migrate from the rural South, the importance of the Harlem Renaissance, the poets and poetry of the movement. 

CASE #6
​"I CAN": MUSIC & POETRY OF THE BLACK ARTS MOVEMENT ​

In this class, students will look at the influence of the Civil Rights Movement on the Black Arts Movement, and the multitude of artists that influence the era and the movement.

Advanced Sessions (Pre-Requisite): 

THE RUNAWAY AND THE ABOLITIONIST 

​This investigation looks at slavery in North America, its beginning, its impact on the lives of Black people free and enslaved and observes how they freed themselves.  *Completion of Cases 1-4 required.

RESISTANCE AND REVOLT 

​Resistance and revolt for Black people in America began before 1619. This investigation will look at the many ways Black people used their voices to fight for freedom for all. *Completion of Cases 1-4 required.

HISTORY IS NOT A FAIRYTALE: DESTROYING MYTHS WE LIVE WITH

​Too often, we hear things about history that just aren't true or only half truths. The goal of this case is to identify some of the false fairytales in African and American History and discover the truth. The Transatlantic Slave Trade, American Slavery, Reconstruction and the Civil Rights Movement are all discussed in this course.  *Completion of Cases 1-4 required. ​
